Does MettleCI work on different operating systems and topologies?

Does MettleCI behave the same on Unix, Windows, Cloud, Grid, BigInsights, Kubernetes...?

Yes. Behaviour of MettleCI on all versions of DataStage (Windows, Unix, Cloud, On-premises, SMP, Grid, etc.) is identical.

Different topologies might require different installation considerations for MettleCI components. For example, on a DataStage grid environment the MettleCI Unit Test Harness would need to be installed on each compute node of your grid.

The Developer-focussed functionality of MettleCI, including Compliance, Unit Tests, and Git check-in are unaffected by your selected topology. MettleCI provides capabilities which assist when migrating between environments of different topologies:

  • MettleCI Unit Tests are portable between environments, so a Unit Test created on a Windows environment can be seamlessly deployed to a Unix-based DataStage platform and re-executed.

  • The MettleCI Compliance system can detect and report jobs which exhibit characteristics which might impede their migration from one topology to another.

  • The MettleCI Transmuter capability enables the batch update of jobs, where necessary, to modify characteristics which might otherwise make them unsuitable for your target environment.  Examples might be replacing inappropriate hard-coded system references, or adding or removing inappropriate job parameters, or parameter values.
