Why can’t you use the version of Java that IBM packages with DataStage?

IBM packages Java v1.7 with DataStage, and MettleCI workbench requires Java v1.8 for some of its more advanced functionality. We have also experienced some impediments in adopting IBM’s version fo Java due to IBM’s JVM extensions not adhering to standards dictated by Java’s reference implementation.
